The Montgomery County Animal Shelter is in need of photographers to volunteer their time on Sundays to photograph rescue dogs. Volunteers at the shelter try to take better pictures of the animals than their original intake picture so it can be posted on the shelters Facebook page to hopefully to help get them adopted. The shelter has over 64k followers who see these pictures and have come to love seeing the animals dressed up.
If there are any photographers in the club who are interested in volunteering their time on Sunday’s from 1-4pm (it doesn’t even have to be that long, even an hour would help, and it doesn’t to be every single Sunday) to help take pictures at the shelter.
There are three people who currently take pictures at the shelter and they can’t always be there so they are looking for more volunteers to help out.

Volunteering is a great way to help the animals get adopted while also getting your images out there in the community and gaining experience in animal photography.

The Science of Photography –
In Camera Multiple Exposures
by Andy Howard --- [email protected]

Back in the “old days” of film photography, when only serious amateurs and professionals had dark rooms, the “science” of “in camera multiple exposures” was more widely practiced. You could have a camera with a button to disengage the film take up sprocket when you “wound” the film advance lever to cock the shutter. Alternatively, you could disengage the take up sprocket and carefully rewind the film one frame (uh, no, this was not generally precise!) and shoot again. Talk about an “adventure in photography!”

Many of today’s digital cameras (e.g. the Canon EOS 5D Mark III, 1D X, and 70D; most Nikon DSLRs; Fujifilm’s X-Pro1 and X100s; and the Olympus OM-D E-M5, among others) have an option that allows “in camera multiple exposures” --- multiple exposures/”shots” recorded into a single file. Another option is “overlaying” one image on your memory card with a second, separate image.

When would you use the “in camera multiple exposure” function? Capturing the progression of a lunar eclipse in a single frame. Simulating the use of a neutral density filter on a bright day to make a water scene soft and silky. Adding ghosts to a room (2 exposures at half exposure, add people to the 2nd exposure --- the room will be fully exposed but the people will be only half-exposed ghosts).

Instructions for in camera multiples exposures or image overlays are specific to each camera. The following links go to some examples and can be used to help with the concepts; Google will help you find many others:

--- Multiple exposures (Canon) ---http://learn.usa.canon.com/app/pdfs/quickguides/CDLC_MultiExposure_Feature_QuickGuide.pdf
--- Image overlay (Canon) --- http://petapixel.com/2013/04/17/tutorial-shooting-double-exposures-with-a-canon-5d-mark-iii/--- Image overlay (Canon EOS 5D MkIII – with video, concepts are good for any camera) --- *http://www.popphoto.com/how-to/2014/04/how-to-shoot-camera-double-exposure-photo*--- Image overlay (Nikon) ---http://www.nikonusa.com/en/learn-and-explore/article/ga5bvjav/image-overlay-combining-images-together-in-camera.html
--- Multiple exposures (Nikon -- concepts good for any camera) --- http://www.digitalcameraworld.com/2013/09/29/multiple-exposures-in-camera-how-to-get-long-exposure-effects-in-bright-light/--- Multiple exposures (Nikon)
Sure, putting multiple exposures into a single file can be done in a program like PhotoShop and maybe more easily but why not “live on the wild side” and stretch your camera skills by trying a few “in camera multiple exposures”?
