Rescheduled for the month of June

OUR NEXT MEETING IS JUNE 8, 2015

EDWARD HEARD

SUCCESSFUL PORTRAIT POSING

SECOND SHOTS PHOTOGRAPHY

I am more of a photojournalist, and I specialize in that style of photography in both my weddings, engagements and lifestyle sessions. My overall approach is trying to be that “fly on the wall” photographer that catches you living in the moment and enjoying the ambiance. There is nothing that I’m not willing to try.

Throughout the day, I’m a full time middle school mathematics teacher! I love my job, and I love teaching a subject that most people don’t enjoy. This helps me with my photography because most people don’t like taking photos either, and this provides me a working set of experiences to pull from when I’m getting the best out of my clients for their images. I have my Bachelors of Arts in Political Science from the University of North Florida and my Masters in Educational Leadership from Grand Canyon University.

PHOTO TIPS

The Science of Photography
Backups
by Andy Howard

Digital photography any more advanced than “point-n-shoot and take the data card to the drugstore for printing” requires knowledge of your camera, computer, and post-processing software. One important computer task is doing “backups”. Since your digital “negatives” are the sole starting blocks for viewing, processing, posting, or printing, making copies/backups is especially important.

There are many backup options available for both PC and Mac users. The best option (for either brand) is the one that you will use and is easy to implement; even better if it is automatic and low/no cost! Mac machines come loaded with “Time Machine” and PCs have “Backup and Restore”. Backups with these programs are easy to implement and can be automated.

With my PC, I also “mirror” my computer “data” files (photos, documents, etc). Microsoft products are SyncToy (free download from MS) and Robocopy (already in the Windows load). These programs will copy files from your hard drive to external drive or network-connected drives, periodically (as you determine) adding new files and deleting ones you have deleted on the source. SyncToy is a similar free program for Macs.

To be additionally secure, you should store at least one backup copy “off-site” (such as a bank safe deposit box or “cloud computing” site) from the computer you are backing up. External hard drives are relatively inexpensive (compared to losing your data), making rotating hard drives to the “off” site a viable alternative.

Go out and capture photos but be expeditious about getting them out of the camera and into a backup!
