Steve Goodrich was formally educated and trained in Industrial Design and holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Industrial Design from California State University at Long Beach. He practice professionally for 25 years, spending 15 years as Director of Design with Compaq Computer Corporation. He transitioned careers in 2002 from Design to Photography and founded Photographic Design & Art, dba PhotoSource in 2003. Originally camera and film processing business, Steve completely recreated the business into a full service Digital Imaging and Photography business specializing in Large Format Printing, Digital Scanning and Archiving, Photo Restoration and Video Services. With a team of six experienced and energetic photography specialist, Steve and his team coined the term "Photographic synergy" to more accurately communicate their level of service...bringing photography customers, i.e photographers, together with printing specialist to achieve truly outstanding photographic results.

Steve's other interests include running Marathons ( The Woodlands, Houston, Chicago, and Napa Valley) as well as Wine and Craft Beers.

Scavenger Hunt

From now until the August meeting we are having a club photo scavenger hunt. Join in the fun by taking pictures of the categories below. Submit up to 5 pictures (Only one picture per category please) to Cindy ([email protected].) and we'll present everyone's finds at the August meeting. Please resize your photos to 1024 on the longest side. Happy Hunting!

2014 Board Member Positions

The following positions are currently open. Duties of the board consist of attending monthly club meetings and board meetings (the last Wednesday of each month) as well as the specific duties outlined below.

This is your club and it takes more than a few people to make it run smoothly; please consider volunteering a few hours each month.

Secretary: Will keep up with board meeting notes. Make reservations for club meetings, workshops, fall contest and any other meeting that is scheduled for the club. This position is also responsible for maintaining and providing the name badges at the club meetings.

Workshop Coordinator: Responsible for researching, planning & coordinating club workshops.

Field Trip Coordinator: Responsible for coordinating field trips. You do not have to lead the field trips, but find members willing to host each event. Plan for one field Trip per month. Most should be local.

Field Trips

1940 Air Terminal Museum (Wings and Wheels)

When: July 19th 2014
Address: 8325 Travelair Street, Houston, Texas 77061 (Across airfield at Hobby Airport)
Hours: 11:00am - 3:00pm
Admission: Adults $7.00, Children $3.00 (ages 12 and under)

We are to meet inside the museum at 11:00am. Members may photograph cars in the front of the museum and the inside and outside of aircraft sitting on the tarmack in the back of the museum.

Ticket prices includes: Static aircraft tours, special programs in the Starliner Theater, museum tours, and admission to the museum.

Houston Museum of Natural Science - Cockrell Butterfly Center

When: August 16th
Address: 5555 Hermann Park Drive, Houston, Texas 77030
Admission: Adults $8 (Children ( 3-11) Seniors (62 +) $7
Parking: Curb parking is available near the museum entrance and in Hermann Park. On weekends additional parking is available at Park Plaza Garage at the corner of Caroline and Ewing Street one block North of HMNS. Rates range from $5 to $9 maximum.
Time: We are to meet at the front entrance of the museum at 8:45am and purchase tickets at 9:00am

Due to small walkway tripods are not allowed.

No need to chase butterflies in parks or yards. The Cockrell Butterfly Center at the Museum of Natural Science is a stunning living exhibit that showcases hundreds of live butterflies in a naturalistic rainforest setting. The Central Conservatory is a dramatic three-story glass cone filled with tropical plants and expect to see 50 or 60 of different species of the worlds largest and most colorful butterfly species flying through the balmy air. hovering over flowers or sipping fruit juices - or occasionally landing on visitors.

Annual Kleb Woods Hummingbird Festival

When: Saturday, Sept 14th
Where: Kleb Woods Nature Center, 20303 Draper Rd, Tomball, Texas 77377
Time: 7:30 am
Admission: Free
Parking: Free
Tripods: Yes

We are to meet in the parking lot at 7:30am to get an early start and position for photographing the birds

Hummingbird expert Sumita Presad will be capturing and banding Hummingbirds throughout the day. You may ask Sumita questions about their unique structure and amazing biology.

At 9:30am, Sarah Kuzio will present "Discovering the birds of Kleb Woods

10:00am - 1:30, Mary Ann Weber will display live Owls. At 2:pm she will present
silent hunters, a program to give everyone chance to meet an Eastern Screech Owl, Barred Owl, and Great Horned Owl.

At 1l:00am Kleb Woods Naturalist Kendra Kocab will present all you ever want to know about Hummerbirds.

Patrons are encouraged to bring their own refreshments. Drinks and snacks will not be sold. Also bring insect repellent.

Photo Tips

Windows and Doors

Windows and doors are everywhere; We are bombarded with them on a daily basis. Choose these everyday openings as a photo project and you will soon see the interesting and unusual jumping out at you. Peeling paint, smashed windows, ornate knockers, and wonderful boxes. This project is sure to yield a great set of photographs and is something that will improve with time. The further you travel, the more interesting and diverse your project will become.

Come join us Saturday, August 9th at the Montgomery County South Regional Library to learn about Cool Photography Gadgets; flash diffusers and triggers, remote switches, close up flashes, macro lenses, camera vests, bags and travel cameras.
If there is a gadget you would like to learn about, please send an e-mail to Allison Pitre ([email protected]) by July 25th with the subject line as “Requesting Cool Gadget ________.” The workshop is from 9am to 1pm with Q&A from noon to 1pm. The cost of the workshop is $15 and lunch is provided.

Submit up to four photos, and they can be of anything! We’d love you to share all kinds of images you might have of events, trips, people, workshops or whatever else you might have in your digital library.

A two year time frame is suggested for the slide show and mini-contest photos.

It’s easy! Just email your photos to me. Please resize them to 1024 pixels on the long side. If you aren’t sure how to resize, don’t worry . . . send them to me and I will resize them for you. Please note in the subject line or in the body of the email whether they are for the Mini Contest or the Slide Show, and make sure your full name is also included.

You will need to send to me no later than Friday, July 11th at midnight. We would love to have a lot of participation; sharing your photos will inspire others and provide a platform to show off your photos, no matter what level you are at in your photography journey.

A two year time frame is a requirement for the Fall Photo Contest

Membership dues must be paid by the end of July in order to participate in the Fall Photo Contest...with the exception of new members who must have joined by August.


To participate in the club field trips, mini-contest and workshops you must be a member. Join or renew your membership - Individual $25, Family $35, Student $15.

Don't forget that membership dues paid after the Fall Contest will now include membership for the following year!
