December Newsletter 2013

December 9th 6:30 - 9:00pm

South Montgomery Community Center

2235 Lake Robbins Drive

December is our annual membership celebration. Instead of a speaker, the program will be YOU. Food, photos and fun. Submit up to six photos to Cindy (see submission instructions below) by the Friday before the meeting, We want everyone to participate so start reviewing your photos now for your favorites.

Bring your favorite appetizer, dessert or side item to accompany the ham, rolls and drinks provided by the club.

It's your club, so bring your ideas for next year's programs. We will have an idea basket where you can submit your suggestions for speakers, judges, field trips, workshops and categories for the photo contests. Be specific. We will have plenty of index cards and pens available for submissions.

We will have lots of opportunities for socializing with your fellow members.

Upcoming Meetings

January Speaker: Ken Carter

Topic: Event Photography

Ken is going to share images from many different venues and discuss the equipment used, the logistical challenges faced, and the lessons learned through event photography of many types.

Ken Carter relocated to Houston from Colorado Springs after a U.S. Air Force career spanning from the fall of 1979 to the spring of 2010. While in the Air Force, Ken specialized in media relations, community relations and internal information for more than 20 years. While serving as a military news reporter, what started as almost exclusively working as a journalist evolved to full-blown photojournalism. His work earned numerous command-level awards and resulted in him being hand picked to cover many high-profile assignments documenting local, national and international visits by three U.S. presidents and many other world dignitaries. Upon arrival in Houston, Ken decided to take his passion for photography in a simpler, more personal direction ... and get back to the basics of capturing every-day people, places and things.

His "day job" is photographing new and used cars full time for one of the largest auto dealerships in Houston. He considers photography a passion and, therefore, he says, "it doesn't feel like work most of the time."
