Our Meeting This Month

Breakout Sessions

We will designate different tables with different subject matter and assign a board member to each group to direct the discussion and take notes. Subjects can include portrait, landscape, birds, travel, sports, architecture, etc.

The Nikon School is hosting two full day workshops in Austin,Texas on April 27 & 28. These workshops are taught by professional instructors and will inspire your digital SLR photographic efforts, whatever your level of experience. For more than 30 years Nikon School has been helping photography enthusiasts master new techniques and improve their picture-taking skills by providing clear direct information on a wide range of technical and creative topics. Please make a note, this is not camera specific. Any brand DSLR is accepted.

2013 Board Member Positions

The following positions are still open. Duties of the board consist of attending monthly club meetings and board meetings (the last Wednesday of each month) as well as the specific duties outlined below.

  1. The Workshop Coordinator is responsible for researching, planning & coordinating club workshops.

  2. The Webmaster is responsible for keeping the website up to date with the most current information, events and speakers.

FALL CONTEST CATEGORIES

2013 Fall Contest

The categories for the fall photo contest are as follows:

  1. Black & White: Urban Landscape

  2. People: Up close

  3. Nature: Spring

  4. Technique: Panning

  5. Wild card: Photos from 2013 workshops and field trips

  6. New members: The Color Blue

  7. Open Category

All members may submit two photos per category with the exception of the New Member category which is only open to members who joined during 2012 and 2013. All pictures must be mounted, matted and framed (maximum frame outside total dimesion 17x21 inches), in each category. There will also be a "Best of Show" and "Members Choice" award. Should you have any questions, please feel free to contact a board member.
Minor adjustments such as contrast/brightness, removing dust and scratches, burning/dodging,and cropping are allowed. all other images alterations must be entered in the "Open category" or any category where a special technique is required.

Field Trips

Cost: No Fee

We will meet in front of the Creekside YMCA then start photographing scenic, nature and possibly wildlife.

Workshops

The Critical Eye

Date: March 30th
Time: 4:00pm
Place: Montgomery County Community Center 2235 Lake Robbins Drive Room #102

Our first meeting of the Critical Eye is scheduled for Saturday March 30th, 4pm at the Woodlands Community Center. We will be focusing on the Feldman Critique. There is nothing you need to bring, unless you need to take notes.

Bird Photography with Tim Timmis

Thursday April 4th

Time: 6:30 - 8:00pm
Location: South Montgomery County Library
Cost: $20.00

Tim will discuss the equipment he uses, camera settings, and wildlife photography techniques. Those attending the Thursday evening lecture will have priority on the Saturday field event.

Saturday April 6th

Time: 7:00am
Location: Brazos Bend State Park
Cost: $15.00 (Park fee not included)

We will be able to put all of our new knowledge to use as we meet Tim early in the morning at Brazos Bend State Park for that golden light to get some one-on one instruction in the field.

Sign up early as we limit attendees to 25 participants in the field.

Macro Workshop

Date: Saturday, June 22nd
Location: Community Center - Dining room
Time: 9:30am - 3:00pm (lunch included)
Cost: $40

Join Kathy Adams Clark for a day long, hands on Macro Workshop. A variety of work stations will be set up around the room. Some subjects will be supplied, but participants are encouraged to bring flowers, scarves, and small objects. All participants need to have a camera with adjustable f/stop and shutter speed along with a tripod. Additional equipment such as a flash, reflector, release/remote release, closeup diopter, and/or extension tubes make the workshop a lot more fun. Please bring camera manual, flash manual and extra batteries to the workshop.

Lunch will be provided. There is a maximum of 20 people for this workshop so sign up quickly. For additional information please contact [email protected]

Ride Along (non club photo opportunity)

If you are interested in riding along with the Montgomery County Emergency Medical Technicians in their ambulances for a unique photo opportunity please contact Marlisa Briggs at [email protected] They will be requesting copies of your photos to use in their promotional materials and website.

Mini Contest

Submit your images (up to 2) to blake by Friday, March 8th to participate in our monthly mini-contest! Please size images to 1024 pixels on the longest side!

Have you been someplace interesting or just gotten some great shots? Each month a portion of the meeting will be devoted to seeing and talking about the creative experiences of our membership. Please share your shots with members by participating in members slide show. Submit your photos (limit 4) to Blake by the Friday prior to the monthly meetings.
