Our Meeting This Month
Matthew White - Sports Photography

After 16 years of photographing sports and editorial content for the Houston Chronicle, Matthew left his staff photographer position in 2010 as the newspaper industry receded. He is now a senior photographer and hiring manager for one of the largest sports photography companies in the country. Matthew travels across the USA every weekend 10 months out of the year covering sports assignments and is currently in charge of over 125 sports photographers across the country. Some of his current and past clients include: NBA, Adidas, NFL, Sports Illustrated, Houston Grand Prix, UEP, University of Houston, Firestone, NHRA, National Arthritis Foundation, and The United Way.

2013 Board Member Positions

The following positions are opening up effective January 2013. Duties of the board consist of attending monthly club meetings and board meetings (the last Wednesday of each month), as well as the specific duties outlined below.

  1. The Vice President will preside over meetings when the President is not able to attend and will assist the other board members with meetings and/or special events. The Vice President will also provide input on the newsletter.

  2. The Workshop Coordinator is responsible for researching, planning & coordinating club workshops.

  3. The Historian is responsible for maintaining records of club speakers, judges and activities.

Upcoming Speakers

We had some great meetings in 2012! A big thank you to all of our speakers for donating their time and knowledge! Join us in December for our annual Holiday party. The club will provide sandwiches and we ask everyone to bring a side dish or dessert. We will also feature an extended member's slideshow for everyone to submit pictures and share their photographic journey of 2012 with the club!

Houston Zoo

Date: Saturday, November 17th

Time: 10:00 AM
Cost: $13 admission fee

Meet fellow members at the main entrance of the zoo at 10:00 AM and photograph to your heart's content! Look at the schedule of Keeper Talks ahead of time to find out when you might get a closer look at the animals (there are even Android and iPhone apps that include a daily schedule, map, and information about the animals).

Shooting Opportunity

Spanish Horses Dancing Exhibition

Members Slide Show

Have you been someplace interesting or just gotten some great shots? Each month a portion of the meeting will be devoted to seeing and talking about the creative experiences of our membership. Please share your shots with members by participating in members slide show. Submit your photos (limit 5) to Blake by the Friday prior to the monthly meetings.

This month's feature is Rock The Shot Forum. Rock the Shot is a member forum that features an online community, e-courses and workshops, freebies, and a blog to keep you up to date with the latest information pertaining to photography. There is an annual fee of $50 (with several other subscription options if you just want to check it out). Every month features a photography challenge, a photographer spotlight (ask a photographer anything you want on the forum!), and a member packet of freebies (anything from textures to actions to templates).
