Our Speaker This Month
Joe Baraban ~ "Life Before Photoshop"

After receiving his BA in Journalism, Joe ventured out into the freelance world
and never looked back. For the past forty years, Joe has shot for clients from Coca
Cola to Hennessy, Cessna to IBM. His resume includes most of the Fortune 500
companies. He has photographed the full line car brochures for Acura, Saturn,
and Range Rover, not to mention campaigns for Jaguar, Ford, and Toyota. The
tourism departments for Alberta Canada, Pennsylvania, Alabama, and Texas
have contacted Joe for their state campaigns. Editorial clients such as National
Geographic, Life, Texas Monthly, Time, Geo, and the New York Times magazine
have used Joe for several assignments.

Now, Joe has submerged himself in the Fine Art world, and for the past two years,
has traveled around the country documenting old windows; a definite departure
from the world of graphic design and advertising. After a recent one-man show in
Houston and Austin, his windows are represented by the Bering and James Gallery
in Houston. Bering and James also represent his corporate work.

His honors include two gold medals in the New York Art director’s show. Gold
medals in the national Addy’s, Photo Design, Studio Magazine’s premier award,
the Houston, and Dallas Art director’s shows, and the Don Belding award in
Los Angeles. He is in Texas Monthly’s 100 best photographs, and has been on
Adweek’s Southwestern All star Team.

Check out his impressive body of work at his website and blog.

Message from President

Congratulations to all participants in our Fall Photo Contest. Your work is fabulous!
Looking forward, it is already time to plan for the Christmas party. This year we are
hosting a Pot Luck dinner and inviting members to create slide shows to document their
photographic journey over the past twelve months. This can mean many things depending upon experience. For example, if you are new to photography, it could mean that you would document your growth and if you are more experienced, it could follow your travels. Please find details for presentation guidelines in the December Holiday Party section below.

Have fun,

Karen Geser
Club President

Field Trips

Photowalk at Old Town Spring

November 12, 2011 5:00-7:00 PM

Join us for a photowalk at nearby Old Town Spring, a quaint turn of the century town composed of shops, restaurants, museums, and art galleries. This will be the first night for their 31st annual Home for the Holiday celebration! The opening ceremony and tree-lighting begins at sundown. We'll be there before that for some afternoon/sunset shots and then the tree lighting will be a great chance to practice photographing Christmas lights!

If you would like to carpool, meet at the community center at 4:30. If not, we can meet at Gentry Square in Old Town Spring. Plan for it to be crowded since it is the first weekend of the holiday festivities! Please email Katie Corcoran if you plan to attend.

Christmas at Night Photowalk

December 3, 2011 5:30-7:00PM

The Woodlands Waterway

We'll be doing another Photowalk in December to capture the wonderful holiday lights around the Woodlands Waterway. Meet us in Town Green Park (right behind the Pavilion, across the street from HEB) and we'll walk the waterway photographing the Christmas lights. Submit your favorite shot to Barry before the December 12th club meeting to participate in our holiday card competition. The winner will be featured on the card that the club sends to all of our monthly presenters at the end of the year and will even win a surprise! The vote for the winner will be member's choice.

No workshops this month. Check back next month for upcoming workshops!

No current events. Enjoy the upcoming holidays!

December Holiday Party

December 12, 2011

The holiday party is coming up and the club will be hosting it's annual holiday party. The club will provide sandwiches and drinks and members are invited to bring a favorite holiday dish! We'll be featuring our Holiday Lights competition from our December field trip and would also like to ask members to bring their favorite photographs from the past year to present to the club. Please have no more than 20 photos on a USB drive. We would like to limit this presentation to 30 minutes total and will decide how long each member gets once we know how many presenters there will be.

To participate in the club field trips and workshops you must be a member. Join or renew your membership - $25 Single, Family $35, Student $15

Please note we have a new policy regarding dues! Membership dues paid after the Fall Contest will now include membership for the following year!
