Fall 2008 Portfolio Show & Competition

We will have the opportunity to submit a PORTFOLIO of our work on one topic
Your portfolio should be in the form of three to five matted and framed photos that are clearly related in some way - communicating an idea, common theme, sequence of events, or illustrating a photographic technique.  Ideally your portfolio should create synergy, i.e., your choice of images and how they work together should create an overall effect that is more powerful than just viewing each one individually.

COMPETITION RULES

1.  This competition is only for club members who are current on their annual dues.
     (You may pay the $20 annual dues when submitting your entry.)
2.  Entry fee is $15 per person.
3.  Submit one portfolio of 3 to 5 related photos as described above.
4.  Pictures MUST be matted and framed (maximum outer frame size 17X21"),
     wired for hanging on a hook.
5.  Color or black-and-white photos may be used from any time period which the
     photographer has taken the picture.
6.  No nude photography allowed (the display is in a public library used by children).
7.  When you bring your pictures in, you will be asked to pick from 1 of 5 layouts in which we will hang your picture. Please label your pictures in order A, B,C,D,E if there is a set order
8.  Please put your name on the back at the right lower corner to help prevent loss.
     No photographer name should appear on the front of the picture.
9.  If there are more entries than the library display walls will accommodate,
     we will hold the extras aside, but they will still judged and critiqued.
10. Only portfolios brought to the library during the specified time below will qualify.
11. All entries must be picked-up at the time specified below. If you cannot pickup
     the entry yourself, please arrange for another person to do so.

JUDGING

Judges:  Awards will include "Best Portfolio of the Show," as well as first-, second-, and third-place portfolios. Also, “Best of show picture” and “Members favorite” portfolio. Decisions of the judge will be final.

DATES AND TIMES

SUBMIT YOUR PORTFOLIO -- Saturday, October 11, 2008 from 9:30 to 11:30 AM
at the South Branch Library in The Woodlands. Late entries cannot be accepted.

ATTEND THE JUDGING -- Wednesday, October 15, 2008 at 7:00 PM for critique/awards presentation.

PICK UP YOUR ENTRIES -- Wednesday, November 5, 2008 during our regular meeting, at the South Branch Library in The Woodlands. If you cannot be there, please make arrangements with somebody to pick up your entries.
SPECIAL NOTE -- OUR REGULAR MEETING WILL BE ON WEDNESDAY NOVEMBER 5.
