APRIL

 

MONTHLY MEETING & PRESENTATION
Monday, April 12 -- 6:30 to 9 P.M.

Richard Underwood will give a presentation on "Photographic Journey to the Moon." Retired from NASA in 1986, Dick was the Technical Monitor for all photographic experiments for the Mercury, Gemini, Apollo, Skylab, and chief photographic consultant for the Space Shuttle.

MINI CONTEST: Bring any two images for the mini-contest. Judging will start at 6:30 PM.

MINI MEMBER SHOW: Barbara Edmondson will show some slides. We encourage all members to schedule these mini member shows for upcoming meetings.

BE PREPARED FOR OUR SPRING PHOTO SHOW & COMPETITION

CATEGORIES: Action, Nature, People, Open, B&W

Entry Submission: Saturday, May 1st. from 12:30 PM to 2:00 PM at the South Branch Library in The Woodlands in the large conference room.

Judging: Monday, May 10, just prior to the meeting. Awards will be presented during the meeting

Take down and entry pick up: Monday, June 14, during the monthly meeting

FIELDTRIP: Spring Town Crawfish Festival

WPC Booth at Earth Day Celebration

The WPC joined more than 40 area organizations and businesses as part of the Earth Day celebration on Saturday, April 3rd. The Woodlands' festival began in the early 1990's and is designed to educate entire family on environmental awareness. This year's event was held at the Alden Bridge Shopping Center. WPC members Debbie Alamilla and Brenda Driscoll manned the booth providing visitors information about the club and inviting them to visit our monthly meeting.

SPRING PHOTO SHOW & COMPETITION

Monday, May 1st -- 12:30 to 2:00 P.M.

MONTHLY MEETING & PHOTO CRITIQUE
Monday, May 10 -- 6:30 to 9 P.M.

Just prior to the meeting we will have the judging of our Spring Photo Show & Competition. Our judges, Karl Hoke and Robert Kjellberg, will stay during the meeting and share comments and criticism on the submittals. "Best of the Show" and 1st., 2nd., 3rd., and Honorable Mention will be awarded in each category.

JUNE


MONTHLY MEETING & MEMBERS SLIDE SHOW
Monday, June 14 -- 6:30 to 9 P.M.

Following our regular meeting we will have the Members Slide Show. After the Slide Show, we will take down the Spring Photo Exhibit. If you cannot be there to remove your entries, please make arrangements for someone else to pick them up for you. All entries must be picked up.

PHOTOGRAPHIC DISPLAY AT PHOTOSOURCE

Nolan Braud is the featured photographer at Photosource this month. They will be displaying 5 prints from his portfolio on floral close-ups The photos will be on display through the month of April. Photosource is located at 5106 Louetta, west of Kuykendahl. Stores hours are 10 AM to 6:30 PM, Monday through Friday and Saturday 10 AM to 4 PM.

MAY ADVENTURE BEING PLANNED

Ken Means is organizing a great field trip to the Paria Plateau in northern Arizona (north of the Grand Canyon) for the second week in May. The group will photograph the famous windcarved rocks there, the dramatic Antelope Canyon, and perhaps Lake Powell from a houseboat, among other adventures. Probably about a 6-day trip total. Anyone interested should contact him directly: [email protected]

We need club members who have digital cameras to volunteer to document our field trips and special events. Our friends John Masters and Nolan Braud have been providing digital images of our meeting presenters and other activities but could use some help.  If you are willing to help, please e-mail to our newsletter editor.

ABOUT OUR CLUB



The Woodlands Photography Club
is an organization formed
to support area photographers of all ages, skill levels, and interests to advance in their ability to create truly satisfying images.  In the process, we all become great friends, enjoy field trips and outings together, and learn from each other.

MEETINGS.
 We meet on the second Monday of every month from 6:30 to 9 P.M. at the Montgomery County South Branch Library
at 2101 Lake Robbins Dr. in the large conference meeting room. Visitors and the curious are always most welcome!

MEMBERSHIP. Anyone interested in photography, no matter what your age or level of experience (professional, amateur, or wannabe), is most welcome to join our club. Membership is a measly $20/person or $30/family per year.

NEWSLETTER. Our monthly online newsletter goes out around the first of each month (you are reading the current issue).  We keep all back issues archived on our club website.

MEMBER GALLERIES. Each member can have a gallery of his or her best images online. Contact Nolan Braud for gallery help ([email protected]).
