SUMMER PRINT SALE AT HCP
Saturday, June 7 -- 9 A.M. - 5 P.M.
1441 West Alabama
Ten of our club members are showing their pints at the Houston Center for Photography annual print sale. Come see their work and support their efforts -- and meet many other photographers in the Houston area. This is a fun and enriching day of mixing, making friends, learning what people like so your photos will sell better in the future, and letting people citywide know about our club.
MONTHLY MEETING
& PRESENTATION
Monday, June 9 -- 6:30 - 8:45 P.M.
A special presentation by Jim McCary from the Humble Camera Club. He will share his special slides from a trip to Mt. Kilamanjaro and bring some digital cameras for a discussion on going digital, a topic to prepare us for our June Field Trip (see below).
Jim McCary has been interested in photography since he was in elementary schoo, when his father introduced him to a camera. In 1995 Jim started the Humble Camera Center, a full-service sales, processing, framing, and repair facility. He recently purchased new digital laboratory equipment and a large format printer, providing printing services for images up to 44" x 90".
His three week trip to Mount Kilamanjaro in January 2001 came about as a result of a customer coming into the store inquiring about very specific equipment tolerances, e.g. temperatures at minus 20 degrees Fahrenheit. He will share this experience with us and give us insights into some of the latest developments and trends in digital cameras.
As owner of Humble Camera Center, Mr. McCary is a generous sponsor of our photography competitions and we appreciate his support.
FIELD TRIP:
TRY OUT DIGITAL PHOTOGRAPHY
Saturday, June 14 -- 8:30 A.M. - 1 P.M.
The Woodlands Information Center
We're gathering up a few professional digital cameras for members to use on this field trip -- a terrific hands-on opportunity to try using digital cameras and get to know the world of digital photography. John Masters, a club member who is adept at this technology and at explaining it, will give us a mini-workshop on tricks of the digital trade. We meet at The Woodlands Information Center for his overview and shooting, and then go to John's house near the TPC to check images on his calibrated monitor and learn the back half of the digital work.
INSTEAD OF OUR REGULAR JULY MONTHLY MEETING:
SUMMER PICNIC AND MEMBER SLIDE SHOW
Saturday, July 19 -- 6 to 10 P.M.
Shadowbend Park, The Woodlands
Members' families are most welcome -- R.S.V.P.
Instead of our regular meeting at the Library, we're planning a terrific summer evening of park fun, a picnic cookout (fajitas and drinks catered, other food brought by members), swimming for the kids with a lifeguard present, and about 90 minutes of members' favorite slides -- the cream of the crop. Those interested in showing slides should contact a board member at the next meeting to get on the list. We can probably accommodate about 25 members this way. Members' families and significant others are most welcome to come enjoy the park activities, pool, food, and slides. We will send a special email invitation to you with all the details of this great event.
